About this pattern
Baby, Mama and Papa bear from one pattern. All three bears use exactly the same rounds: the size comes from the yarn and hook, so once you have made one bear you already know the other two.
The arms and legs are jointed with strong thread (or buttons) so they move and the bears can sit. The PDF also has three little outfits, a scarf, a dress and a bow tie, and a tick box beside every round so you never lose your place.

Before you start
- One pattern, three bears. Every bear uses exactly the same rounds. Baby Bear: sport yarn and a 2.5 mm hook, about 14 cm (5.5 in) standing. Mama Bear: worsted yarn and a 3.5 mm hook, about 19 cm (7.5 in). Papa Bear: bulky yarn and a 5 mm hook, about 25 cm (10 in). Sizes are approximate and depend on how tightly you crochet.
- All pieces are worked in continuous spirals: do not join with a sl st and do not chain at the start of a round. Put a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round and move it up as you go.
- Magic ring (MR): wrap the yarn around two fingers, insert the hook, pull up a loop, ch 1, then work the stitches into the ring and pull the tail tight to close the centre.
- Decrease (dec): use the invisible decrease. Insert the hook in the front loop only of the next stitch, then in the front loop only of the following stitch, yarn over and pull through both front loops, then yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.
- The number in brackets at the end of each round is the number of stitches you should have. If it does not match, count again before you carry on: it is much easier to fix one round than five.
- Leave a long tail (about 30 cm / 12 in, more for Papa) when you fasten off any piece that will be sewn on later.
