Why you'll love it
- A top-down yoke means very little sewing and an easy fit check as you go.
- Two fan lace tiers give the skirt a full, twirly shape.
- Sage green picot edges and leaf vines add a fresh, garden-inspired touch.
- Matching booties make it a complete gift set.
- Breathable cotton is soft and practical for baby skin.

Assembly
- 1
Weave in all ends and lightly block the dress, spreading the fans and picots evenly.
- 2
Bodice vine: sew the 32-stitch vine across the front yoke in a gentle wave at about Row 7, and sew 10 leaves along it in pairs.
- 3
Skirt vine: sew the 115-stitch vine around the top of the overlay tier, just below the waist, and sew 24 leaves along it.
- 4
Sleeves: sew 3 leaves onto each sleeve ruffle near the shoulder.
- 5
Ribbon: thread the satin ribbon through the waist eyelets and tie a bow at the front. Tack the bow so it cannot be pulled off.
- 6
Booties: sew 2 leaves to the toe of each bootie and sew the strap buttons on securely.
Important notes
- Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
- Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease (single crochet two together).
- Tip: The yoke is worked in turned rows; the skirt and bodice are joined rounds. The ch-3 at the start of a dc row or round counts as a dc; the ch 1 at the start of sc rounds does not.
- Tip: Sizing assumes a 6-12 month chest of about 18 in (46 cm) with 1.5 in (4 cm) of ease. Babies vary, so measure the child if possible.
- Tip: Safety: buttons, ribbon, and appliqués can be choking hazards. Sew everything on very securely, tack the bow in place, and always supervise babies wearing embellished clothing.
Pattern FAQ
How do I make other sizes?
Change the hook size to change the gauge: a 3.5 mm hook gives about 0-6 months and a 4.5 mm hook gives about 12-18 months. For the larger size, add 2 bodice rounds and 2 fan rounds to the main skirt.
Which yarn is best for a baby dress?
Soft mercerized cotton or a cotton-bamboo blend is breathable, gentle on skin, and shows the lace clearly. Avoid scratchy or very fuzzy yarns.
Can I skip the leaf vines?
Yes. The dress is complete without them. Fewer appliqués also make it simpler and safer for very young babies.
How do I wash it?
Hand wash in cool water with a gentle baby detergent, or machine wash on a delicate cycle in a mesh bag. Lay it flat to dry and reshape the fans while damp.
