Important notes
- Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
- Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease.
- Tip: The ch 2 at the start of hdc rows and rounds does not count as a stitch.
- Tip: Sizing assumes a 6-12 month chest of about 19 in (48 cm), waist of 18 in (46 cm), and head of 17-18 in (43-46 cm). Babies vary, so measure if possible.
- Tip: Safety: buttons, the pompom, and appliques can be choking hazards. Sew everything very securely, and always supervise babies wearing embellished clothing.
Pattern FAQ
How do I make a different size?
Change the hook size to adjust the gauge: 3.5 mm gives about 3-6 months and 4.5 mm gives about 12-18 months. You can also add or remove body rows and leg rounds to adjust the length.
How does the sideways ribbing work?
You work short rows of back-loop sc and join each pair of rows to the garment edge with 2 slip stitches. The back-loop rows create stretchy ridges that look like knitted ribbing.
Can I make only some of the pieces?
Yes. Each piece is written separately, so you can make just the cardigan, the overalls, or the hat and booties as a smaller gift.
How do I wash the set?
Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cool water with baby detergent, or hand wash. Lay flat to dry and reshape while damp.
