Teddy Bear Baby Romper Crochet Pattern

This teddy bear baby romper crochet pattern makes a sweet bubble romper in soft denim blue with a little bear holding a balloon on the front. It has ribbed leg cuffs, buttoned shoulder straps, and inseam buttons for easy changes. It is worked from the cuffs up with very little sewing, which makes it a lovely gift for a new baby.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Bear: sew the muzzle and ears to the head and embroider the face. Sew the head to the top of the body, overlapping slightly.

    2. 2

Place the bear on the front of the romper, centered on Rounds 3-10. Sew the body and head in place, adding a little stuffing behind the head for a soft raised look.

    3. 3

Sew the arms to the sides of the body and the feet to the bottom so the bear looks seated. Tie the scarf bow under the chin.

    4. 4

Balloon: sew the balloon to the upper right of the bib area and the string from the balloon to the bear's paw.

    5. 5

Buttons: sew all buttons securely and check that each one fits its buttonhole.

    6. 6

Weave in all ends and lightly steam the romper to shape.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease.
    • Tip: The ch 2 at the start of hdc rows and rounds and the ch 1 at the start of sc rows do not count as stitches.
    • Tip: Sizing assumes a 0-3 month chest of about 14 in (36 cm). Babies vary, so measure the baby if possible.
    • Tip: Safety: buttons and appliques can be choking hazards. Sew everything on very securely, check the buttons regularly, and always supervise babies wearing embellished clothing.

    Pattern FAQ

Why are the legs worked flat?

Working the legs in rows leaves the inner leg edges open, so you can add button bands for easy diaper changes without cutting or extra seams.

How do I make a bigger size?

Use a 4.5 mm hook for about 3-6 months. Add 2 rounds to the body and 2 rows to the bib, and lengthen the straps by 4 chains.

Can I skip the inseam buttons?

Yes. Simply sew the inseam edges together instead of adding button bands, but buttons make diaper changes much easier.

How do I wash the romper?

Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cool water with baby detergent, or hand wash. Lay flat to dry and reshape while damp.
