Why you'll love it

  • It frees up shelf and floor space by storing three spare rolls on the wall.
  • The rings are crocheted into the strip, so there is no extra hardware to attach.
  • The open mesh bands stretch to grip each roll and let it slide in easily.
  • The mint sprig adds a fresh, decorative touch and uses up small amounts of yarn.
  • Cotton yarn makes it sturdy, washable, and suited to a humid bathroom.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Weave in all strip ends and lay the strip flat, right side up, with the bottom ring at the bottom. Check that the markers are in Rows 6, 27, 28, 49, 50 and 71.

    2. 2

Bottom band: lay one band over the strip. Using the band's tail and a tapestry needle, whipstitch its foundation edge (16 sc) across the full width of Row 6, matching stitch for stitch. Then whipstitch its Row 21 edge (16 sc) across the full width of Row 27. The band will bow outward between the seams.

    3. 3

Middle band: sew the second band in the same way to Rows 28 and 49.

    4. 4

Top band: sew the third band in the same way to Rows 50 and 71. Weave in all sewing ends on the back of the strip.

    5. 5

Leaves: on each stem, sew 1 leaf to the bottom end so it hangs downward. Sew 2 more leaves as a pair about 1.25 in (3 cm) above it, and another pair about 2.5 in (6 cm) above that, for 5 leaves per stem.

    6. 6

Gather the 3 stems and thread their top ends through the gold bead, leaving about 1.25 in (3 cm) of stem above the bead as a small tuft. Secure the bead with a few stitches through all 3 stems.

    7. 7

Center the sprig on the top section of the strip with the bead at about Row 100. Sew the bead and stems firmly to the strip, then tack several leaves down so the sprig stays in place, letting a few leaves extend past the edges.

    8. 8

Hang the top ring on a sturdy wall hook and slide a roll into each band from the side.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden construction details, yarn weight, and dimensions are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, dec = decrease (single crochet two stitches together).
    • Tip: On the strip, the turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch. On the mesh bands, the ch 5 at the start of each row counts as a dc and a ch-2 space.
    • Tip: Measure your toilet paper rolls before starting. Roll sizes vary, so lengthen the bands by 1-2 mesh rows for larger rolls.
    • Tip: Cotton or a cotton blend is recommended because it holds its shape under the weight of the rolls and copes well with bathroom humidity.
    • Tip: Make sure the wall hook is secure enough to hold three full rolls.

    Pattern FAQ

Will this fit large or mega rolls?

The bands fit standard rolls up to about 4.5 in (11.5 cm) in diameter. For larger rolls, add 2-3 mesh rows to each band and 4-6 rows to each roll section of the strip.

How do I make it hold two or four rolls?

Each roll section is 22 rows of the strip plus one mesh band. Remove 22 rows from Rows 6-107 for two rolls, or add 22 rows for four rolls, and make one band per roll.

    Can I use acrylic yarn?

You can, but acrylic tends to stretch under weight, so the strip may sag over time. Cotton is firmer and holds up better in a bathroom.

    How do I wash it?

Remove the rolls and hand wash in cool water with mild soap, or machine wash on a gentle cycle in a laundry bag. Reshape and lay flat to dry. Metal rings can rust if left wet, so dry the piece thoroughly.

Can I leave off the mint sprig?

Yes. The holder works perfectly without it. You can also shorten the top section by removing up to 30 rows from Rows 72-107 if you prefer a more compact holder.
