Why you'll love it
- Plush chenille makes her extra soft and huggable.
- Two simple face patches create the fawn's marking without colorwork.
- Front-facing feet with cream soles give a sweet sitting pose.
- Little Y-shaped antlers and round ears are easy to make.
- Bulky yarn means she works up in a day or two.
Materials needed
Tools
- 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Two 15 mm safety eyes (blue or black)
- Polyester fiberfill, approx. 6 oz (170 g)
Gauge & finished measurements
Gauge: 14 sc and 16 rounds = 4 in (10 cm) in bulky chenille with a 5.0 mm hook. Head gauge: Rounds 1-8 measure about 4.4 in (11 cm) across when flat. A tight fabric matters more than exact gauge.

Assembly
- 1
Face: embroider a pink triangle nose where the face patches meet, a small smile below, black lashes beside each eye, short mauve eyebrows, and pink cheeks. Add 6-8 white French knot spots on the blue forehead.
- 2
Head: sew the head to the neck of the body with the face forward, adding stuffing to the neck as you close.
- 3
Ears and antlers: sew the ears to the sides of the head at about Rounds 8-11. Sew the antlers on top of the head between the ears, about 8 stitches apart.
- 4
Limbs: sew the legs to the front bottom of the body with the soles facing forward, and the arms to the sides just below the neck.
- 5
Tail: sew the tail to the lower back.
- 6
Details: embroider a mauve heart on the tummy and tie the scarf around the neck with one end hanging down the front.
Important notes
- Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
- Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease (invisible single crochet decrease).
- Tip: Work all round pieces in continuous rounds with a stitch marker. The ears are joined rounds and the scarf is worked in turned rows; the ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Tip: Chenille stitches are hard to see, so use a stitch marker every round and count by feel.
- Tip: Safety: safety eyes are not suitable for children under 3. For babies, embroider the eyes and sew all parts very securely.
Pattern FAQ
Can I use regular yarn instead of chenille?
Yes. Worsted acrylic with a 3.5 mm hook gives a deer about 7 in (18 cm) tall. The stitch counts stay the same, and the stitches are easier to see.
How do I get the V-shaped face marking?
Pin the two cream ovals so their lower ends touch below the nose and their upper ends angle apart toward the ears. The blue showing between them forms the V.
Is she safe for a baby?
Only if you embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes and sew every part on very securely. Always check toys for loose parts before giving them to babies.
How do I clean her?
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. If needed, hand wash gently in cool water, press out the water in a towel, and let her air dry completely.
