Hexagon Flower Bedspread Crochet Pattern

This hexagon flower bedspread crochet pattern combines three shades of blue into a lacy, porcelain-inspired coverlet. Each motif has a solid medium blue center, a ring of light blue rays, and six bold navy petals outlined in light blue. The flowers join as you go at their petal tips, creating a honeycomb of blooms with pretty open spaces between them.

Why you'll love it

  • Three shades of blue give a fresh, porcelain-inspired look.
  • Join-as-you-go hexagons mean no seams to sew at the end.
  • Open spaces between the petals make a light, lacy coverlet.
  • Bulky yarn makes each motif quick, at about 35 minutes each.
  • The motif also works for throws, pillow covers, and table runners.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Make and join all 184 motifs in 16 offset rows, alternating rows of 12 and 11 motifs.

    2. 2

Weave in the ends of each motif as you finish it to avoid a large pile at the end.

    3. 3

Optional edging: join light blue at any outer tip and work 1 round of sc around the entire outer edge, working 1 sc in each stitch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each outer tip, and sc2tog at each inner valley where two edge motifs meet. Fasten off.

    4. 4

Lay the bedspread flat on a large clean surface or several blocking mats.

    5. 5

Pin the petal tips and outlines into shape, lightly mist or steam the whole piece, and let it dry completely before removing the pins.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden construction details, yarn weight, and dimensions are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, dec = decrease (sc2tog: single crochet two stitches together, used only in the optional edging).
    • Tip: The ch-3 at the start of a dc round counts as a dc, and the ch-4 at the start of Round 4 counts as a dc and a ch-1 space. The ch 1 at the start of sc rounds does not count as a stitch.
    • Tip: Work all rounds with the right side facing; do not turn.
    • Tip: Bulky yarn makes a heavy bedspread. Support the weight when washing and blocking.

    Pattern FAQ

How many motifs do I need for other sizes?

Each motif adds about 7.4 in across and 6.4 in down the rows. For a twin, try 9 and 8 motifs in 16 rows (136 motifs). For a king, try 15 and 14 motifs in 16 rows (232 motifs).

Can I make the edges straight?

The offset rows give a scalloped edge on the sides. For straight sides, fill each gap along the edge with a half motif: work Rounds 1-6 in rows over half the stitches, turning at each end.

    Why are my petals ruffling?

Ruffling usually comes from loose rays in Round 4 or extra stitches in Round 5. Check that each petal has exactly 14 stitches and that Round 4 has 36 dc and 36 ch-1 spaces.

Can I use worsted yarn instead?

Yes. With worsted yarn and a 5 mm hook, each motif measures about 6 in, so you will need roughly twice as many motifs for the same size. The stitch counts stay the same.

    How should I wash it?

Follow the care label on your yarn. Wash it in a large-capacity machine on a gentle cycle in cool water, then lay it flat to dry and reshape the motifs while damp.
