Holiday Treat Basket
Approx. 8.5 in (22 cm) across and 5 in (13 cm) tall with lid
Why you'll love it
- It makes a cheerful holiday centerpiece that also holds treats.
- The scalloped icing lid with sprinkles looks good enough to eat.
- The construction is simple: two flat circles and straight sides.
- Small appliqués let you personalize your cottage.
- It makes a lovely gift filled with candy or ornaments.
Materials needed
Tools
- 4.0 mm (US G-6) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- One 8 mm pearl bead for the doorknob, plus optional small pearl beads for the base trim
- Optional: cardboard or plastic canvas circle, 8 in (20 cm) across, for the base
Gauge & finished measurements
Gauge: 18 sc and 20 rounds = 4 in (10 cm) with a 4.0 mm hook. Base gauge: Rounds 1-10 measure about 4.3 in (11 cm) across. A tight, firm fabric is more important than exact gauge.

Assembly
- 1
Door: center the door on the front of the basket with its bottom edge just above the bobble trim. Sew it on around the frame.
- 2
Windows: sew one window on each side of the door, about 1 in (2.5 cm) away and level with the upper half of the door.
- 3
Snowflake: sew the snowflake centered above the door arch.
- 4
Holly: sew one sprig at the lower left and one at the lower right of the door, and two more around the back and sides of the basket.
- 5
Lid handle: sew the last sprig to the center of the lid, stitching the leaf bases and berries firmly so you can lift the lid by it.
- 6
Finish: weave in all ends, shape the basket, and fill it with candies or ornaments.
Important notes
- Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
- Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease.
- Tip: Work the basket and lid in continuous rounds with a stitch marker. The door is worked in turned rows; the ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Tip: Keep your tension tight throughout the basket so it holds its shape.
- Tip: The pearl beads are a choking hazard. Keep the basket away from small children, or embroider the doorknob instead.
Pattern FAQ
How do I keep the basket from sagging?
Work tightly or go down to a 3.5 mm hook. You can also hold two strands of yarn together or place a cardboard or plastic canvas circle in the base.
Will the lid stay on?
The lid rests on top and overhangs the rim. If you want it to sit more securely, work a few rounds of sc on the underside of the lid in red to form a lip that fits just inside the rim.
Can I use cotton yarn?
Yes. Worsted cotton gives a crisp, sturdy basket and very clear stitch definition, which suits this design well.
Is it safe for food?
Use it for wrapped candies only. Unwrapped food can pick up fibers and is hard to keep clean in a crocheted basket.
