Flower Granny Square Blanket Crochet Pattern

This flower granny square blanket crochet pattern sets a big cream eight-petal flower in the center of every burgundy granny square. Cream edge rounds and cream seams form soft light bands between the squares, and a cream shell border finishes the edge. It is a warm, classic design for a bedspread, a throw, or matching cushions.

Why you'll love it

  • A raised cream flower makes each square a small work of art.
  • Chain loops behind the petals keep the flower in front of the granny rounds.
  • Classic granny clusters are relaxing and easy to memorize.
  • Cream edges and seams form soft bands that frame every square.
  • The same square makes a bedspread, a throw, or matching pillows.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring.
    • Tip: The ch-3 at the start of dc rounds counts as a dc. The ch 1 at the start of sc rounds and the ch 2 at the start of hdc rounds do not count as stitches.
    • Tip: Work all rounds with the right side facing; do not turn.
    • Tip: Square stitch counts do not include the corner ch-2 spaces.

    Pattern FAQ

How do I change the size?

Each square adds about 9 in. Border Round 1 has 34 stitches per square plus 1 on each edge. Subtract 1, divide by 2, and choose a skip of 1, 2, or 3 at each end so the remainder divides evenly by 6 for the shells.

Can I join the squares as I go?

Yes. Join each new square to its neighbors with sl st in Round 10. The bands will be slightly narrower without the raised seam.

    Why is my flower cupping?

Tight treble crochet or a tight Round 4 can make the flower cup. Loosen your tension in those rounds and block the square flat.

    How should I wash it?

Follow the care label on your yarn. Wash it in a large-capacity machine on a gentle cycle in cool water, then lay it flat to dry and reshape the petals while damp.
