Emerald Lace Bedspread Crochet Pattern

This emerald lace bedspread crochet pattern builds a rich, elegant coverlet from openwork squares in a single deep green. Each square starts with a spoked ring and four fans that grow into the corners, then adds an open mesh band and solid rounds. Raised seams link the squares, and a scalloped shell border gives the bedspread a soft, vintage finish.

  • An open mesh band adds airy lace between solid rounds.
  • A single color shows off the texture and looks elegant on any bed.
  • Worsted yarn makes the squares quick to finish.
  • The scalloped border also works for matching pillows and doilies.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are simplified from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring.
    • Tip: The ch-3 at the start of a dc round counts as a dc, and the ch-5 at the start of Round 2 counts as a dc and a ch-2 space. The ch 1 at the start of sc rounds does not count as a stitch.
    • Tip: Work all rounds with the right side facing; do not turn.
    • Tip: Square stitch counts do not include the corner ch-2 spaces.

    Pattern FAQ

Why stop at Round 8 for the bedspread?

The straight sc edge of Round 8 makes neat, even seams. The scalloped shells are saved for the outer border, single squares, and pillows.

How do I change the size?

Each square adds about 8 in. Border Round 1 always has 28 stitches per square plus 1 on each edge. Subtract 1, divide by 2, and choose the skip at each end (1, 2, or 3 stitches) so the remainder divides evenly by 6 for the shell repeat.

My square is cupping. What should I do?

Cupping usually comes from tight chains in Rounds 2 and 6 or a missed corner increase. Check the per-side counts after each round and relax your tension on the chains.

    How should I wash it?

Follow the care label on your yarn. Wash it in a large-capacity machine on a gentle cycle in cool water, then lay it flat to dry and reshape the shells while damp.
