Flower Motif Bedspread Crochet Pattern

This flower motif bedspread crochet pattern joins dozens of chunky cream flowers with sage green centers into an airy, garden-inspired coverlet. Each flower has four heart-shaped petals made with tall treble stitches and a neat single crochet outline. The motifs connect as you go, so there is no sewing at the end.

Why you'll love it

  • Chunky flowers work up fast, and each one takes about half an hour.
  • Join-as-you-go assembly means no sewing at the end.
  • Heart-shaped petals and a sage center give a fresh, garden-inspired look.
  • The petals form a pretty scalloped edge, so no border is needed.
  • The same motif makes throws, table runners, and pillow covers.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Make and join 168 motifs in 14 rows of 12, following the join-as-you-go layout.

    2. 2

Weave in all ends as you finish each motif to avoid a large pile at the end.

    3. 3

Lay the bedspread flat on a large clean surface or several blocking mats.

    4. 4

Pin the petal tips and lobes into shape, especially along the outer edges, and lightly mist or steam the whole piece.

    5. 5

Let it dry completely before removing the pins.

    6. 6

Place it on the bed with the scalloped petal edges hanging over the sides.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden construction details, yarn weight, and dimensions are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring.
    • Tip: The ch-3 at the start of Round 1 counts as a dc. The ch 1 at the start of the other rounds does not count as a stitch.
    • Tip: Work all rounds with the right side facing; do not turn.
    • Tip: Treble crochet (tr): yarn over twice, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, then (yarn over and pull through 2 loops) 3 times.
    • Tip: Super bulky yarn makes a heavy bedspread. Consider a lighter cotton-acrylic blend, and support the weight when blocking.

    Pattern FAQ

Can I fill the open gaps between the flowers?

Yes. Work a small filler in each diagonal gap after joining: MR, then [sc, ch 4, sl st into the nearest petal edge, ch 4] 4 times, joining to the four petals around the gap. This makes a denser, warmer bedspread.

How do I change the size?

Each motif adds about 7.5 in in each direction. For a twin, try 9 x 14 motifs; for a king, try 14 x 14 motifs. Measure your bed and the drop you want before starting.

Can I use a lighter yarn?

Yes. Bulky (#5) yarn with a 6 mm hook gives motifs of about 5.5 in, and worsted yarn with a 5 mm hook gives about 4.5 in. You will need more motifs, but the stitch counts stay the same.

    Why are my petals curling?

Curling usually comes from tight chain loops in Round 3 or tight outline stitches in Round 5. Loosen your tension in those rounds and block the motifs flat.

    How should I wash it?

Follow the care label on your yarn. A bedspread this heavy is best washed in a large-capacity machine on a gentle cycle in cool water, then laid flat to dry and reshaped while damp.
