Important notes
- Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
- Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, dec = decrease.
- Tip: The ch 2 at the start of hdc rows does not count as a stitch. The ch 3 at the start of dc rows counts as a dc.
- Tip: Sizing assumes a 3-6 month chest of about 17 in (43 cm). Babies vary, so measure if possible.
- Tip: Safety: buttons and flowers can be choking hazards. Sew everything very securely and always supervise babies wearing embellished clothing.
Pattern FAQ
Why make the romper in two panels?
Two identical flat panels are easy to work and measure, and you can try them against the baby before sewing the side seams.
How do the cardigan sleeves work?
At underarm height, chains added at the side edges are worked into the next row, so each piece grows a short sleeve. Sewing the shoulder and underarm seams closes the sleeves.
How do I make a larger size?
Use a 4.5 mm hook for about 6-12 months. Add 3 body rows to each romper panel, 2 rows to the cardigan below the sleeves, and 4 chains to each strap.
How do I wash the set?
Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cool water with baby detergent, or hand wash. Lay flat to dry and reshape the ruffles and scallops while damp.
