Puppy Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern

This puppy Christmas stocking crochet pattern makes an adorable ornament with a sleepy amigurumi puppy snuggled into a red stocking. The stocking has a textured griddle stitch, a green heel and toe, a fluffy cream bobble cuff, and a little bone patch. Hang it on the tree, or tuck a small treat inside as a gift for a dog lover.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Face: sew the blaze from the top of the head down the center of the face. Sew the muzzle at the bottom of the blaze with a little stuffing, then sew the nose to the top of the muzzle.

    2. 2

Ears: sew the ears to the top sides of the head so they hang down along the cheeks.

    3. 3

Puppy: place the head on the cuff opening, tilted slightly to one side, and sew it to the inside edge of the cuff all the way around.

    4. 4

Paws: sew the paws over the front edge of the cuff, just under the muzzle, as if the puppy is resting its chin on them.

    5. 5

Bone: sew the bone patch to the front of the leg.

    6. 6

Hanging loop: fold the gold cord in half and sew both ends securely to the back of the cuff.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, dec = decrease (invisible single crochet decrease).
    • Tip: Work all round pieces in continuous rounds with a stitch marker. The blaze and bone bar are worked in turned rows; the turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
    • Tip: Griddle stitch: alternate sc and dc across the round, then in the next round work a dc into each sc and an sc into each dc.

    Pattern FAQ

    What is an afterthought heel?

It is a heel worked after the stocking is finished. A row of chains leaves an opening at the back, and you later pick up stitches around that opening and decrease to close it, which creates a neat, rounded heel.

Can I make the stocking without a puppy?

Yes. Leave the stocking unstuffed and skip the puppy to make a small gift stocking for a treat, a gift card, or a dog toy.

Can I make it look like my own dog?

Yes. Change the head and ear color, swap the blaze for spots, or use a different muzzle color to match a family pet.

Is it safe for a child or a pet?

This is a decoration. If it will be handled by a child, sew every part on very securely. Keep it away from pets, who may chew it.
