Christmas Reindeer Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

This Christmas reindeer amigurumi crochet pattern makes a sweet standing reindeer with a shiny red nose, branching antlers, and a tiny Santa hat perched on his head. He wears a red and green striped scarf with fringe and holds a little gift box tied with a red ribbon. His cream face patches, rosy cheeks, and dark hooves give him plenty of charm.

    Assembly

    1. 1

Face: sew the eye patches around the eyes if not already secured, then sew the muzzle centered below them with a little stuffing. Sew the nose to the top of the muzzle.

    2. 2

Head: center the head on the neck with the face forward and sew it on firmly, adding stuffing to the neck as you close.

    3. 3

Ears and antlers: sew the ears to the sides of the head at about Rounds 10-12, angled outward. Sew the antlers to the top of the head at about Rounds 5-7, behind the ears, and bend the tines into shape.

    4. 4

Hat: sew the mini hat to the top center of the head between the antlers and add the pompom.

    5. 5

Arms: sew the arms to the sides of the body at about Round 19, just below the neck.

    6. 6

Belly and gift: sew the belly patch to the front of the body between Rounds 8 and 18. Sew the gift box into the curve of one arm.

    7. 7

Scarf: wrap the scarf around the neck and tack it so one end hangs down the front.

    8. 8

Stand the reindeer on a flat surface and gently adjust the legs until he balances.

    Important notes

    • Tip: This is an original pattern inspired by the photo. Hidden details are interpreted from the image, and the pattern has not been physically test-crocheted.
    • Tip: Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sl st = slip stitch, MR = magic ring, BLO = back loop only, dec = decrease (invisible single crochet decrease).
    • Tip: Work all round pieces in continuous rounds with a stitch marker. The scarf is worked in turned rows; the turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
    • Tip: Safety: safety eyes, pipe cleaners, cardboard, and pellets are not suitable for children under 3. For young children, embroider the eyes and skip the inserts.

    Pattern FAQ

My reindeer will not stand. What can I do?

Stuff the legs very firmly, add the cardboard circles to the soles, and put a small pellet pouch in the bottom of the body. Make sure the head is centered over the body and not tilted back.

Can I make the antlers without pipe cleaners?

Yes. Stuff them firmly with fiberfill instead. They will be softer and less posable but safer for young children.

How tall will he be with different yarn?

With DK yarn and a 2.75 mm hook he will be about 9.5 in (24 cm) tall. With bulky yarn and a 5 mm hook he will be about 15 in (38 cm) tall.

    How do I clean him?

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap and let him air dry. Avoid machine washing if you used pipe cleaners, cardboard, or pellets.
